📏 Measuring & Compatibility

How do I know if a handle will fit my door?

Different products require different measurements. The key ones are:

  • Door thickness
  • Backset: the distance from the door edge to the centre of the spindle or lock
  • Spindle size (usually 8 mm for UK internal doors)
  • Fixing centres

Each product page includes measurements and a diagram where applicable. If you need help measuring, get in touch and we’ll guide you through it.

What is “backset” and why is it important?

Backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the centre of the latch or spindle hole. It ensures your new hardware lines up correctly with your existing holes or lock mechanism.

Typical UK backsets include 44 mm and 56 mm, but always check your existing setup before ordering.

How do I measure my existing hardware?

  1. Measure the thickness of the door (usually 35–45 mm internally).
  2. Measure the backset from the edge of the door to the centre of the spindle or latch.
  3. Check the spindle size (commonly 8 mm).
  4. Confirm fixing centre spacing (distance between screw holes).

Are screws and spindles included?

Where possible, we include all necessary fixings. Each product page lists what is included. If something is not included, it will be clearly stated.

Will the hardware work with my existing lock or latch?

Often yes, especially if you’re replacing like-for-like. Check that your existing latch/lock matches the measurements listed on the product page. If it doesn’t, we can advise on compatible alternatives.
